Some Tips to Share With Your Maid

The maid’s job in your household is to provide assistance with many tasks around the house in order to make your life easier. The key element in maintaining a healthy relationship with your maid is communication, as sometimes what seems obvious to you might not be the same for someone else of a different background. Here are a few tips you can pass on to your maid for a better and safer experience:

Care for personal hygiene

  1. Shower daily, use toiletries like soap and shampoo, trim nails, and be sure to wear clean clothes to keep you healthy.
  2. Wash your hands several times a day, and wear gloves if they are available to perform cleaning chores and wash your hands directly afterward.
  3. Respect your employer’s remarks about your personal hygiene; since you will work with the family you live with, it is important to communicate with your employer about hygiene requirements and standards.
  4. Stay away from members of the household, especially children, if you have the flu or any other illness. In addition, inform your employer about your illness and visit a doctor.

Safety at the workplace

  1. Memorize the contact numbers of the police, ambulance, and civil defense in case there is an emergency at home or in the vicinity requiring their intervention (fire, fall, etc.).
  2. Make sure you disconnect the power supply from all appliances when they are not in use.
  3. Make sure you disconnect all the electrical outlets that children can reach.
  4. Keep at least one meter between the source of fire or heat and flammable materials.
  5. Make sure not to leave children in the kitchen unattended.
  6. Do not leave the kitchen for a long period of time while cooking food on the stove.
  7. Beware of using Clorox with hot water. It is advisable to wear plastic gloves when using chemicals. You can wear a mask to avoid inhaling these materials. You should also wear appropriate shoes to avoid slipping on wet floors.

Talking to your maid about how you want things to be done in your household is very important and can save you the trouble of conflict and misunderstanding that might happen along the way. Remember that your maid is here to help you, and filling them in on what works and doesn’t work for you is the best approach you can take to ensure a healthy relationship with your maid.
